Easy baby/toddler costumes
Cat
you will need
Gold, brown, tan, black, gray or white babygrow, swimsuit or leaotard
Faux fur in matching colour
Fabric glue
Felt in matching colour
Plastic headband
Scissors
2 Pairs of socks in matching colour
Dog collar or belt cut to size (optional)
How to make
Cut two triangles for ears and hot glue to the headband. Cut a small oval shape from the faux fur for the tummy area and adhere that with fabric glue. Next make cuffs and a collar. Use the cuffs on the sweatshirt as a guide for how wide and long you need to cut the faux fur strips. Attach the strips to the sweatshirt using fabric glue. Cut a long tail from the remaining felt and attach to the back of the pants with a safety pin. Have child wear one pair of socks on her hands and one pair on her feet.
Top off with a dog collar or a belt cut short to serve as a collar. (please be careful of this, making sure child is supervised at all times!)
Spider
You will need
Black babygrow, swimsuit or leaotard
2 Pairs of black socks
4 Pair of black tights
Cotton wool for filling
How to make
Stuff the tights socks with cotton batting to make the spider's legs. Sew or pin the eight legs to the sides of the black outfit. Have child wear one pair of black socks on his hands and one pair on his feet.
When your baby crawls, the legs flop up and down on the ground, making it look like a spider crawling across the floor. So cute!
Wicked Witch

| What you need | |
| Newspaper Masking tape Scissors Skein of gray yarn Black electrical tape Black paint Cardboard Tin foil 1x2 yard piece of black gauze fabric Black ribbon |
|
| how to make! |
|
| 1. | For the hat: Roll a tall newspaper cone (ours is 15 inches high) and tape it to hold. Roll up the bottom edge until it fits comfortably on your child's head. |
| 2. | For the hair: Cut a section of 20-inch strands of yarn. Cut a 6-inch strip of electrical tape and press a bunch of the yarn strands onto it. Tape the yarn bunch to the rim of the cone. Continue making yarn bunches until the rim -- minus a section near the face -- is covered. |
| 3. | To finish the hat: Use three sheets of newspaper to form the hat brim. Roll in the outer edges, taping them in place, so that you create a circle with a rolled edge. Trace around the cone bottom onto the center of the brim, then divide the circle like a pie, cutting along the center lines. Push the cone up through the brim and tape in place. Paint the hat black. Cut out a cardboard buckle, cover with foil and tape to the front of the hat. |
| 4. | For the robe: Fold the fabric in half so the short ends meet, then cut an approximately 7-inch hole for her head. Have your child slip on the robe; then cut a fringy edge on the bottom. Belt the robe with a black ribbon. |
| 5. | For spooky accessories: Dress your witch in plastic snake necklace, striped tights, and black lipstick. |
Mummy
| you will need! |
|
| Coloured face paints | |
| Makeup brush and sponge | |
| Paintbrush | |
| First-aid gauze | |
| Whit clothes for underneath if required |
|
1. Begin by applying a base coat of white face paint to your child's entire face. Then, with a damp sponge dipped in black face paint, lightly pat the white undercoat to create a dappled gray complexion.
2. Using a paintbrush dipped in green face paint, outline his eyes and cover his lips. With a fingertip, dab on a few green bruises as well.
3. Using a makeup brush, paint black scars on the nose, cheek and forehead. Add stitches around the mouth.
4. Highlight the scars and bruises with red face paint.
5. Use a roll of gauze to wrap the look up -- mummy style. Roll the gauze around the crown of your child's head (but not too snugly) and then under his chin. Tuck the loose ends into the cap (rather than tying them together) to facilitate a quick removal. Lastly, embellish the gauze dressing with a couple of red face-paint blotches for good measure.
Christmas Costumes
Nativity costumes
Mary

Materials Needed:
White fabric
Blue fabric
Brown shoes
Bunting or a pillow
Pattern
Sewing machine
Instructions:
Typically the child costume forgoes the expectant Mother look, but you may choose to use bunting or a small pillow to gain the appearance of the expectant Mary.
Step 1: To start you need a pattern for a robe style dress. The dress will be long sleeved and go to the ankles. It should also be pale blue. Alternativley, if sewing is not your cup of tea, lightblue fabric with a neatly cut hole for the head, then tied neatly around the waste will equallly look as good.
Step 2: The next part of the costume will be the blue shawl. It can simply be a piece of fabric that you have sewn the ends to look nice. You can also go a little further and make it more of a coat style with a bit of form to it for around the head and shoulders, again, this depends on time and enthusiasm!
Step 3: The last step is just adding some appropriate shoes that would fit the time period.
Your other option is to also have Jesus born already, which means you carry the sleeping child with you. You can use a doll wrapped in a blanket for the appropriate look.
